Through the "Magnetism for Ukraine" initiative, the IEEE Magnetics Society promotes magnetics research and strengthens the professional magnetics community to support the recovery and advancement of science and technology in Ukraine. To conduct and oversee the implementation of the competition, the IEEE Magnetics Society collaborates with the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU) and the V.G. Baryakhtar Institute of Magnetism of the NAS of Ukraine.
In 2025, the STCU received 37 applications. Following a competitive selection process conducted by recognized international experts, 13 research projects were chosen for funding in 2026.. Financial support will be provided to 47 researchers in the field of magnetics, including 10 women, 8 Ph.D. and master's students, and 7 junior researchers. The funded projects will be hosted at research institutions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Sumy.
Awardees are strongly encouraged to become members of the IEEE Magnetics Society, attend conferences organized by the Society, and submit their research findings to journals published by the IEEE Magnetics Society.
The list of awardees can be found here.

On January 27, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., an open public discussion of the work “High-frequency spin dynamics in low-symmetry nanosystems” will be held at an extended scientific seminar of the Institute of Magnetism. This work is going to be submitted to the competition for the 2026 Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Award for Young Scientists. Authors of the work: R. Verba, Y. Kharlan, V. Borynskyi.

Remote control of mechanical forces and biochemical reactions in cells by combining magnetic nanoparticles with electromagnetic fields is a promising new direction in the treatment of cancer. The physics, current status, and prospects were described in a review article in the IEEE Magnetics Newsletter by Olexandr Tovstolytkin, director of the Institute of Magnetism, Valerii E. Orel, head of the laboratory at the National Cancer Institute, and Valerii B. Orel, an engineer at the same institute. Details can be found at the link (see page 44).

On December 18, 2025, a ceremony was held to award diplomas to the winners of the Prize and scholarships of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for 2024. Among the winners was Roman Verba, a researcher from the Institute of Magnetism, who received a personal scholarship from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for young doctors of science. More more information is available on the page of the [Committee on Education, Science, and Innovation].
